Our Story
My husband’s diagnosis of multiple myeloma came as a shock to both of us in 2013. What to do? Where to turn? I was completely unprepared about my journey as a caregiver for my husband, facing overwhelming uncertainty. My main resource for information was the internet. The chemo and radiation began. The medical staff at Emory Winship were compassionate and always eager to help but I still felt lost, afraid, and confused. Over the years, I’ve become an expert on what an advocate truly means and discovered how blessed we are to have insurance and the financial means to support our journey. While standing in line with my husband at the check-in desk at Emory, I overheard cancer patients discussing their struggles to afford gas, treatment, utilities, and other essential expenses. We decided there was a need in our community, and thus Cancer Connections, INC was established in 2025.
